The Heaths of Devon

The Heaths originated in Devon, and those that we know are connected with our family lived in Totness, a major centre of the leather trade. As far as we know, they were bootmakers - brothers Henry and William prided themselves on making the finest riding boots in all Devon and Cornwall. Henry and William were the sons of Henry and Agnes Hannaford. Henry senior was likely the son of Richard Heath and Susanna Fox, a surmisal from the IGI.

William married Ann Morrell, but having no children, they adopted his nephew William (Henry's son), some of whose descendents are listed here.

Henry junior was the father of a large family, but before proceeding to them, a few words about his wife Mary Rodier Wills.

Mary was the grand-daughter of Samuel Rodier, a French silk merchant who was forced to flee France during the Hügenot persecution around 1688. The story of their escape is here.

Her mother Mary married one Captain Wills, presumably of the same family as William Wills (of Burke and Wills fame) which originated in Totness (a monument to Burke and Wills still stands in Totness' main street). She had one sister, and although her mother was married a second time, we know of no half-siblings.

Ok, on to the family of Henry Heath. Unfortunately this is still in wide text mode, so isn't as easy to read as it might have been. If you want hyperlinks, just start at the top with Henry Heath. There are however a few facts here that aren't yet in the individual pages.
